BPGMEA is rendering the below services :

BPGMEA, is an apex trade body for all manufacturing plastic industries in Bangladesh, is playing very important role for the growth of Plastic industries. The Association is governed by the D.T.O rules. BPGMEA an organization of Plastic Sector, set up in 1987 under licence from Ministry of Commerce, GOB.

Policy Formulations: BPGMEA has active role in policy formulations, negotiations with the government bodies and its exposure to the overseas plastic industries. 

Work as catalyst: The facilities and the support rendered by BPGMEA to its Members and as a whole to the plastic industry have been working as a catalyst to the industrial growth in Bangladesh.

Patent Trade Marks:  BPGMEA is committed to the protection of its members by assisting them to register their Patent Trade marks. Disputes regarding the patented goods are coordinated and settled at the association’s office by its standing committee members.

International Plastic Fair (IPF): BPGMEA has been holding International Plastic Fair each year for the last few years.

Work for policy building: BPGMEA is committed to negotiate with all the government authorities in policy building.

Work for environment issues: BPGMEA is committed to resolve issues related to the environment and have been working continuously with the media and government authorities in Bangladesh.

Recommend bond licence & to renew the bond licence:  BPGMEA has authority for recommending the new bond licence & to renew the bond licence of export oriented industry. Also BPGMEA is contributing to national exchequer by collecting revenue from the bond licence on behalf of GOB.

Permanent Directorship in the FBCCI Board:  Ministry of Commerce has accorded a permanent Directorship in the FBCCI Board for further strengthening BPGMEA & for their past performance.

Awarded as Best Association by Country’s President: BPGMEA has been awarded by FBCCI as best Association of Bangladesh for rendering services to their member and award given by the Late Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman, the then Hon’ble President, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Act for trade dispute settlement: BPGMEA also helps their members for trade dispute settlement among through a committee.

Plastic Product Business Promotion Council: On the demand of Plastic sector BPGMEA has successfully convinced the Ministry of Commerce already set up a Plastic Product Business Promotion Council in the Year 2012, the council has been acting for the development of the sector. 

BIPET: BPGMEA has already been set up BIPET (Bangladesh Institute of Plastic Engineering And Technology) and training courses are going on at BIPET since August, 2014. After successful implementation of the project 1000 trained persons per annum will be trained to help the industry to grow. 

Preferential treatment (GSP Facilities): Bangladesh enjoys GSP and preferential facilities from some of the developed countries and will help our exports to grow, But from 2013 USA had withdrawn the GSP facilities which is being hampered our exports. 

UD Issue: Being the sole organization of Plastic Manufacturers, BPGMEA got authorization of Utilization Diclaration (UD) Issue from the Govt. 

Cash Incentives: Plastic sector non bond industries are getting Cash Incentives from Govt. which is not enough for sector development. We demanded for inclusion all bond & non bond industries for cash incentives.

Budget Recommendation: Every year BPGMEA put Budget proposal to the concerned Ministries and NBR & also FBCCI for the largest benefit of country’s economy.

Packaging Act: We are working to formulate a combined Packaging Act in the country with the help of Industries Ministry. 

Other Activities of BPGMEA

Among the sub-sectors of the plastic sector, packaging, wovens, toys, crockeries, export sector are notable.

Plastics sector is developing rapidly as well as contributing to the economic development of the country. In the coming days, the role of the plastic sector in the country’s economy will be important. This industry sector has reached this position from a small position due to the efforts of all concerned with the sector.

The use of plastic products in Bangladesh is increasing rapidly. There is no field where plastic is not used. According to statistics, most of the countries including the United States, where plastic is used for 100 to 150 kg, Bangladesh uses only 9 kg of plastic like per capita. So there is a great possibility of increasing plastic use in Bangladesh. The use of almost all sectors, including industry, agriculture, household, automobile, electric and electronic products, is expanding.

Total 6 Standing Committees of the Association:

 At present six standing committees of the Association are operating in their respective areas by maintaining their own business discipline.

In addition to design registration of new products of Crockeries and Toyes sector, counterfeit trend of new products has been set up in order to prevent duplicate trends in special products, which has established discipline in the sector.

The arrangement for the registration of patent design offices through the Association of Products of Small and Medium Industries is taken. Only these associations conduct such activities.

The Fair Standing Committee is organizing the International Plastic Fair, annually, where about 20 foreign states are participating.

Working closely with the Department of Environment and the Environment Ministry to safeguard the interest of the packaging and the flexible packaging industry, to promote proper development and environment.

The Standing Committee on Export and EPZs has been taking timely and effective implementation of the export sector, including export diversification of the export sector.
